Our Mission
Our current linear economy relies upon the over-extraction of raw materials, consumerism, and the premature disposal of goods. As a result, some people discard usable possessions for new or different ones while others do without.
The St Louis Free Store redistributes quality items from those who don’t use them to people who will. In this way, our work promotes a circular economy of shared goods and embodies values of equity, mutual aid, and sustainability..
Donation Information
We accept gently used furniture that is still functional and can fit in a car, toys, kitchen appliances and utensils, camping equipment, school supplies, books, and more!
You can reach out to donate anytime! Feel free to bring your donations the day of the pop-up as well.
Update: We can now accept hygiene products, and canned food!
Next Step: Time Banking
Eventually, we want to create a Time Bank in St. Louis. Time is a valuable thing and, like money, can be traded among neighbors. Unlike money, there is no price placed on different kinds of service: An hour is an hour, regardless of the help given. In other words, time banking is a bartering system for services, where people exchange services for time-based credits, rather than money. For example, you may provide an hour of your time helping someone cook in exchange for 1-hour of yoga lessons, or baby sitting, or something from the same or another person.
If you are interesting in being a part of the time bank community, contact us using the contact form. To learn more about time banks in other communities, you can also check the following videos.
